Friends of Hythe School
What is the Friends of Hythe Primary?
Hythe school has a very supportive and active parents-teachers association- known as the Friends of Hythe Primary. As a parent, guardian or teacher of a child at Hythe Primary School, you are automatically a member of the Friends of Hythe Primary …
What do they do?
The Friends exist to promote goodwill and co-operation between home and school and our main task is fund raising to improve the school children’s lives. The committee organises a number of events throughout the year, including the Christmas and Summer Fayres, regular discos, Mother & Father’s Day sales, Easter egg raffles etc. We are also one of the founding stakeholders for the Hythe Community Fireworks.
We also support the school by providing helpers, information & much needed refreshments at school events such as sports days, open mornings & new Year R taster sessions.
In recent years the money raised (on average £7000 per year) has been spent on upgrading the sound and lightning equipment in the hall, Year R’s outdoor/play area, the play trail, a covered outdoor stage and living willow classroom and the refurbishment of the school’s ELSA room. We have also purchased outdoor learning equipment, rugby team strips, recorders for KS1, a maypole to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee and items for breakfast club, golden time and Lego league. Most of these items were requested by the children through the School Council. We also paid for Hythe Primary to have its own zebra on the Marwell Zany Zebra trail in 2016.
A committee of parents and teachers run the charity. There is an annual general meeting at the start of the academic year (usually in October)and meetings every half term to which all parents are invited. If you feel you’re too busy to commit to regular meetings but just want to help out occasionally, then there are specific sub-commities for each of the major events organised – so it is possible to just be involved in discos for example.
